Gibson Connect is powered by Gibson Electric Membership Corporation, the same local people you already know and trust.

Gibson Connect is ready to provide you with high-speed internet service with no data cap. We've divided our area into zones and we've determined the number of registrations needed to financially support a build-out. Now, it's up to you. Register today and encourage your neighbors to register too!
How does the process work?
  • Step 1:  Check out our available packages using the Products tab above. See the participation requirement for your community by clicking the Zones tab. You will drive our construction process. When a zone hits the required participation level, our board will vote to move forward.
  • Step 2:  Register today! Registering today costs just $20 and will apply toward your first Gibson Connect bill (when internet service is received).  Registering now also enables you to avoid a $200 connection fee later.  Just enter your address in the box to the right to get started.
  • Step 3:  Meet your community zone requirement sooner by encouraging your neighbors to sign up too. Follow the Gibson Connect Facebook page so you can share important posts with family and friends.
Where can I learn more?
  • Visit the Updates tab above and follow us on our Facebook page to get important updates.
  • Check out our Frequently Asked Questions.

Gibson Electric Membership Corporation is your not-for-profit, member-owned and member-controlled electric cooperative. In 1936 local farmers formed our cooperative to provide access to electricity for this area.Today, we serve almost 39,000 homes and businesses in eight west Tennessee counties (Crockett, Dyer, Gibson, Haywood, Lake, Lauderdale, Obion and Madison) and four west Kentucky counties (Carlisle, Fulton, Graves and Hickman). Meeting our members' wants and needs is still our goal; and many have asked us to provide access to high-speed internet connectivity. This is why we formed Gibson Connect, a not-for-profit, wholly-owned subsidiary of Gibson EMC. As in our early years, we're working to provide an essential service that will improve the quality of life for our members and our communities. It's a big job, but together we can make it happen!

An Update on Gibson Connect

2:46pm June 6, 2018

We’ve been especially busy at Gibson EMC and at Gibson Connect preparing to provide you with access to high-speed internet service. This is something that we are committed to doing because access is vitally important to our members and to our communities.

It was just last July that our board voted to form Gibson Connect, Gibson EMC’s not-for-profit subsidiary.  In October we launched join.gibsonconnect.com, a place where members register and, based on meeting their zones’ participation requirements, guide the order of our fiber construction process.

In 2017 we applied for three Tennessee Broadband Grants and in January of this year we were notified that we had been approved for one that will help us serve Lake County and the far northwestern part of Obion County.

By February, three of our zones had met their participation goals and our board approved moving forward with the first phase of Gibson Connect’s construction project.  During Phase 1 we will build fiber to the three zones that first met their participation goals (Medina, Dyer and Three Way) and the zones covered by the grant (Tiptonville, Ridgely and Samburg).

In March, Gibson Connect purchased the LitePipe division of Jones Telecommunications and hired former owner Tony Jones.  Since that time, we have brought in additional Gibson Connect staff to help ensure we are well prepared to provide the internet service you need.

We’ve also ordered materials, sent out requests for proposals, done engineering and will begin construction this month. We hope to have Phase 1 completed and the engineering started for Phase II by the end of 2018 or by early 2019.

Because of the magnitude of this project – in terms of the cost, the area to be covered and the work required, we must do the fiber buildout in a way that is financially prudent and physically manageable.  At best, this will be a multi-year project, but we will keep you informed all along the way.  We sincerely appreciate your support and ask for your continued patience.

We've reached 6,000 supporters!

3:01pm April 27, 2018

We’ve hit 6,000 supporters in just over seven months! We’re thrilled that over 16 percent of eligible Gibson Connect customers have now signed up for high-speed, fiber-based internet! Thank you to everyone who has registered and spread the word. We’re currently scheduling registration events throughout our service area so we can answer your questions and/or sign you up for service. Check our calendar on the events tab to find a time when we’ll be in your area. Please keep sharing!

Troy reaches 50%!

11:11am April 23, 2018

Way to go, Troy! You are currently at 51 percent of your goal with only 262 registrations needed. Please keep spreading the word to your family, friends and neighbors!

Three Way Meets Zone Goal!

4:16pm February 23, 2018

Congratulations Three Way! You are the third zone to reach 100% of your participation goal, and we are looking forward to serving you high-speed, fiber-based, reliable and affordable internet service!  Thank you to all who have spread the word, and please continue to do so! We'll keep you posted on Gibson Connect's progress moving forward.

Gibson Connect to Begin Fiber Buildout

8:24am February 21, 2018

Gibson Electric Membership Corporation and its not-for-profit subsidiary, Gibson Connect, LLC, have announced that the companies will begin the buildout of high-speed fiber in Medina, Dyer, and Three Way, as well as in the area covered by the Tennessee broadband grant awarded for most of Lake County and the far northwestern part of Obion County.

“Our Gibson Connect and Gibson EMC boards have approved a resolution to design, engineer and build fiber in these areas,” said Dan Rodamaker, President and CEO of both companies.  “This is an exciting time for our members,” he said.  “Gaining access to high-speed, fiber-based internet service will have a profoundly positive impact on the quality of our member-owners’ lives,” Rodamaker said.

Gibson EMC’s board of trustees formed Gibson Connect in 2017 after passage of the Tennessee Broadband Accessibility Act which allowed the state’s rural electric cooperatives to provide retail broadband service.  Then in mid-October Gibson Connect launched a website enabling members to register for service and guide the fiber buildout.  Medina was the first of 27 zones throughout Gibson EMC’s 12-county service area to reach its participation goal.  Dyer reached its goal next and Three Way is now at 96% with only 9 registrations to go.  The decision was made to move forward with Three Way since it was clear that zone would meet its participation goal within days. Also, because both Medina and Three Way are served from the same substation, it is more efficient and cost-effective to move forward with both zones simultaneously.  The grant, which covers underserved areas of Lake County and the far northwestern part of Obion County, will enable Gibson Connect to build out the Tiptonville, Ridgely and Samburg zones.

“Our goal is to ultimately provide access to high-speed, fiber-based service to all of our members,” Rodamaker said, “but we must use a phased approach.  Phase 1 will require us to design, engineer and construct over 500 miles of fiber,” he said. “We expect that it could take a year or so to complete Phase 1.  Those members who are nearest to substations will receive service first; and as we build and pass members’ homes or businesses, we can serve those locations too,” Rodamaker explained.

In addition to high-speed, fiber-based internet service, Gibson Connect will offer telephone service.  And, based on member interest, Gibson Connect will offer a television/video option although that offering has not yet been finalized.  Members can learn all about Gibson Connect, view the offerings, check their zone’s progress and register at join.gibsonconnect.com.  Members also can call 844-859-6767 to get more information and register.

“Our members have been encouraging us for years to provide access to high-speed internet service,” Rodamaker said. “We appreciate Governor Haslam and all of our legislators who took the steps needed to enable us to provide this essential service,” he said.  “I also appreciate our board of trustees; they are a progressive group who sincerely desire to meet our members’ needs,” continued Rodamaker.  “Most importantly, we appreciate the support of our members.  Because of their confidence and trust as demonstrated through registrations supporting the fiber buildout, we will enhance the quality of life for our members and our communities.”

Gibson Connect - Powered by Gibson EMC - Is Here!

9:42am September 8, 2017

Since 1936, Gibson Electric Membership Corporation has provided its members with the essential service of electricity.  Now, at your urging, we're taking steps to provide you with the essential service of high-speed internet connectivity.  Gibson Connect, LLC was formed in July 2017.  It is a not-for-profit, wholly owned subsidiary of Gibson EMC.

What makes Gibson Connect different?  First, Gibson Connect is powered by the very same people you already know and trust.  For us, it's not about profit; it's about providing you with excellent service and supporting our communities.  Our goal is to ultimately provide all of our eligible* members access to a 100% fiber network.  This is exciting for our members and our communities because fiber offers many important benefits:

  • Reliable - It is less affected by weather than other sources.
  • Extremely Fast - It gives you access up to 1 Gig (1,000 megabits per second). That's 100 times faster than the national average.
  • No Buffering - With  our 1 Gig speed you can download a 2-hour HD movie in less than a minute or a 9-hour audiobook in less than a second.
  • Not Just Internet - Gibson Connect plans to provide telephone) and possibly TV/video (if there is enough interest) over the same connection.  Our telephone offering will operate the same as your local telephone service, but it will include unlimited long distance and advanced calling features.

You and other members will drive our construction plans. If you want us to build fiber to your home or business, register today.  Encourage others - your friends, neighbors and community - to register too!  When a zone reaches the required participation level, our board of trustees will vote to approve the fiber build-out.  Zones that demonstrate the highest levels of interest by exceeding the required participation levels will earn priority.

Gibson EMC has a proud history of providing power to the people of this area and we look forward to providing connectivity to the communities we know and love!

John and Jeff, you should have received an update in your email inbox yesterday. If you did not get it, please let us know. Unfortunately, I can’t provide specifics about when we’ll be able to get service to you. As you’re probably aware, we’ve had some delays due to problems with a former contractor and we don’t want to over-promise and under-deliver. We are working in your zone and we will contact you as soon as your home is ready for installation. We also will share more detailed information as we get it. In regards to the map suggestion, it is a great idea and we are exploring how we might be able to accomplish this. Currently, we do not have the ability to share a map of the areas in which we are working. Please know that we are working diligently to get you service as quickly as possible. It will be well worth the wait.

I, like John Moore, am looking for an update. I also like the idea of the build out map so we as consumers can see what is being done that I read on one of the other comments below. Obviously an exciting time for us country folks to get real internet service. I’m off Bakers Chapel Rd, being on Barnett Rd. Update when you can please. Getting antsy!!

Hi! I know y'all have to be tired of us asking, but is there any idea on when you'll be contacting us on Bakers Chapel Rd? I know that we're somewhere between tomorrow and around 6 weeks, but I would like to have a better idea.. It would be nice if y'all could even just update us on where construction is happening. I follow y'all on social media, but not much happens on there. Is there any way to expedite the process? Would it help if we dig trenches or move the cables ourselves? I am really needing this service as soon as possible. Thank you for your time and patience.

Hi, Michael. Phase II has not yet been determined; this will come after the completion of our Phase I work (in Medina, Three Way, Dyer and Lake County). Next, the other zones that have met their participation goals will go to the board for approval of Phase II financing. We expect to go to the board for Phase II approval in the first quarter of 2019. We also expect to construct Phase II in 2019. We're really happy that your zone has met its participation goal!

Hi, Susan. Delivering service over a 12-county area is a big job that may take several years to complete. However, we do not expect for it to take that long. Of course, as zones reach their participation requirements we will provide more specifics regarding timelines. We will continue to seek and apply for state and federal grants as they become available. Please continue to encourage your friends, family and neighbors to register so your area can get closer to its participation goal!

Hi, Jeff. Yes, we have already connected a handful of members who are already using the service! As soon as the weather breaks, we'll be able to continue working to increase the number of members who are connected. Density is not a significant factor when determining where to build. We are beginning at the substation and moving out. The availability of the contractor's resources are also a factor when determining where we work. Regarding the service drop, we will try to keep the window as short as possible. We expect to be able to complete an in-home installation within a couple of weeks of the service drop being made. We appreciate your support and patience. We know that our members are anxious to get service, and we are ready to provide it to you!

Jenni... I see in your most recent response that you say connections have began around the Mt.Zion Substation in Medina. Does this mean there are customers actually connected and currently using the service? I’m wondering as connections are being made will the focus first be in the larger subdivisions or will there be multiple crews working the smaller populated areas such as Esquire Peek and the surrounding areas? Last question...once a service drop has been made at an address what will the time frame be between the service drop and the actual in home installation? Thank you!

Hello, Brandon. Newbern is currently at 65% of its goal with 119 needed registrations. The faster a zone reaches its goal, the faster we can begin the process of providing service. You are correct that Lake County has been included in Phase I of our build out. In 2017, we applied for three Tennessee Broadband Accessibility Grants and in January of this year we were fortunate enough to be approved for one that will help us serve Lake County and the far northwestern part of Obion County. We will continue to apply for grants that can help us move closer to our ultimate goal of making this service available to all of our members. In the meantime, please encourage your neighbors to register.

Terry, you are correct in that the ONT has 4 Ethernet ports and it can be configured to provide WiFi for the home. We will coordinate the location of the ONT in the home to centralize its position and/or to be near your existing wireless router if you choose to use your own. If necessary, our install technicians can run a Ethernet cable between rooms but there is a fee for that service. You may run your own wiring if you desire. The reach of our WiFi from our ONT has been very good but it does depend on several variables so it will be best to test it as part of the install to see if it meets your needs or if you want to use your own. We will engineer the service drop to your home depending on your specific conditions and will bore the driveway if necessary. The ONT has POTS ports and these can be connected directly to a phone or to your home telephone wiring. We will coordinate this with you as part of the install. We look forward to serving you!

So the ONT has 4 Ethernet ports. If I want to use my wireless router how hard will it be? Will install tech run a Cat5/6 to a point in home? Or will I have to run to ONT? If we get the phone how will it hookup? What is the estimated range of the home WiFi you may provide. My router gives me great coverage for all of 1 acre lot. I'm very excited about this new service! I just purchased at home, and was very disappointed that I only had one option available for internet service. I do have a suggestion for you. Cedar Grove is relatively close to Medina and they have no good providers! And, what is offered is extremely expensive. It's been almost impossible to get cable, or reliable internet service in that area for years! You should consider branching out to the Lavinia and Cedar Grove area. There would be a lot of people interested! And, they'd be extremely happy to get it! Sherry

Hi, Jeff. We’re getting really close, but it looks like it will be the last week of June before contractors begin construction. We’ve made a lot of progress completing preliminary work, engineering, ordering of materials and meeting with our contractors. We’re almost there and will keep you informed as we make progress.

Hi, Mary. I've updated your order to 1 Gig. I see that I am signed up for 100 mbps. How to I change it to 1000? I am very interested in TV as well. You have no idea how disappointed I am in Click1.net. I do hope that your internet WILL INDEED work downstairs as well as upstairs. I even have extenders and it still is very sketchy. I hate it! My desktop is upstairs. But everything else gets used downstairs via WiFi of course.

Hi, John. Great questions! We will coordinate the location of the ONT with the customer; however, we will provide counsel on the location to try to maximize the signal throughout the home. You are correct, the ONT does have a built in router, and we will provide Wi-Fi at no additional cost. You will have access to change the settings. The device we will use is in the Calix GigaCenter family of products, and the cost is already included in the base charge. We are using GPON, and we will serve all members within an active zone regardless of the mileage. Thank you for your interest in and support of Gibson Connect.

One more question, I believe that I read before that you are planning on running a GPON. I thought that a PON can only run up to around 12 miles. Do I have a misunderstanding?

Just needed a little clarification. You are installing the ONT inside the house, is there a set place or is it where we choose? The ONT that you are installing will provide us with WiFi at no additional cost, meaning that the ONT has a built in router? Will we have access to change those settings? Could you provide us with specifications of the device? Also, are there going to be monthly "rent" charges for the ONT? Sorry for asking so many questions. Thank you for your time, and for running this great program!

Hi, Craig. First we will run the fiber service drop to the home. Second, we will run our fiber from outside the home to an ONT located inside the house which can be placed near a computer. That box will provide WiFi for the home at no additional cost and has Ethernet ports if you want to connect directly to your computer. For rental properties we will need to get permission from the property owner before we can run the fiber wire inside the home. Thank you for your support!

Good morning, Jeff! I'm happy to say that we're getting very close. We've been performing work at our substation in Medina and contractors are set to begin construction in your area on June 18. Work on the main fiber network will commence shortly thereafter. As the fiber is constructed and passes members' homes and businesses, we can install and provide high-speed, fiber-based service. By late June or early July we expect to connect our first Gibson Connect customers! Thank you so much for supporting us!

Leslie, we understand that there is a desperate need for high-speed, fiber-based internet in our rural service areas. Because of this need, we are actively applying for grants throughout our service area as they become available. There may be times during the application process in which our members are able to advocate on our behalf by writing a letter in support of the submitted grant. During those times, we will ask for your help in an effort to increase our chance of being awarded an additional grant. We thank you for your continued support and look forward to providing this service to you and all of our members.

Is there anyway any other district can get the grant that Lake and Obion County received so that we can have broadband service too? We can't get cable or DSL and satellite is too unreliable and slow. I run a business from my home and this slow internet is killing me. Are there grants still available for this? I would be glad to work on getting one if possible.

Howard, first, thank you for registering for Gibson Connect! We hope to ultimately provide high-speed, fiber-based internet service to all of our members, but whether or not this is possible will depend upon the success of the program. We believe that enabling our members to guide our construction process is most fair and building first to the areas that demonstrate through their registrations that they plan to purchase the service will help ensure Gibson Connect’s success. Building fiber to the home is a huge undertaking and expenditure. We must do the buildout in a way that is financially prudent and physically manageable. We will have to do the buildout in phases and we hope to have the construction for Phase I completed and the engineering started for Phase II by the end of 2018. At best, this will be a multi-year project, but we will keep you informed all along the way. Please continue to encourage others to sign up so that your zone will be in line for a buildout sooner. We are working on scheduling an event in your area to encourage registrations. We also will continue to apply for grants in Kentucky and in Tennessee to help with the buildout. Again, we appreciate your support.

We are encouraging signups by communicating each month through our member publications (The Tennessee Magazine and Kentucky Living); press releases; social media for both Gibson Connect and Gibson EMC (Facebook and Twitter); our Gibson EMC website, and bill messages. Because of cost, we are more sparingly using paid ads (radio and newspaper) and bill inserts. We're also using fliers, counter stands, and banners in our member service centers. With the help of our Zone Champions we are using yard signs and door hangers. As zones near their participation goals, we are hosting registration events. William I have seen one flyer in only one statement. I called and asked about letting people register and add the $20 to their bill and for some reason they said they could not do that. Why haven't we seen an ad in the mail with the electric bill. I figured by adding something in with the billing would help the process go faster. As far as construction goes, I'm assuming that the fiber backbone will be buried. Do you plain on using nods once you get to a neighborhood and then go to aerial drops? Reason I ask is it looks like AT&T is about to dig up everyone's yard in my neighborhood to lay fiber. Are you guys going to do the same thing a couple of months from now when you come through?

Glenn, I'm so sorry that we did not respond sooner. For the foreseeable future, we plan to continue using this website sign-up process so our members can guide the order of our fiber build out. We've just started Phase 1 with three zones that have hit their zones' participation goals and most of three more zones that are covered by the broadband grant. We want to encourage members to register at join.gibsonconnect.com because we hope to have other zones to hit their participation goals so we can begin engineering those areas as soon as we finish engineering Phase 1. Construction will work the same way; once we complete work on Phase 1, we hope to move right on to more zones in Phase 2. Of course, we plan to continue applying for grants to help with the build out too. Ultimately we plan to make high-speed, fiber-based service available to all of our members, but it will take a while. We really appreciate your patience and support! Please continue to encourage others to register!

Bill, you are right that we will provide high-speed internet access to our members in phases. We are using a member-driven process, so we will build first to those zones that hit their participation goals first (Medina, Dyer and Three Way). We also will be taking advantage of any grants that we can secure for members in our area. We submitted three Tennessee Broadband Grant applications and were awarded one. Phase 1 also will include the area covered by the Tennessee Broadband Grant (the Tiptonville, Ridgely and Samburg zones). So all total, we will be working in six zones to start. At the advice of our consultants (who have done the same kind of fiber buildout for their electric cooperative members) we will begin with about 550 miles. We hope to have most of the Phase 1 construction completed by the end of the year and start engineering on the next phase prior to completing Phase 1. Of course, we hope that we can complete the work faster, but we don’t want to over-promise and under-deliver. Our consultants also have told us that after this initial phase, we should be able to build out about 1,000 miles each year. We have a total of about 3,000 miles of line to build. We understand that you want and need this service as quickly as possible, but we ask you and our other Gibson Connect registrants to be patient. It is quite an undertaking to build fiber access to all of our eligible members, but that is what we plan to do. While we’d like to do it much more quickly, it will likely require several years. We are asking our members to tell their friends, family and neighbors about Gibson Connect, but we also are encouraging signups by communicating regularly through our monthly member publications (The Tennessee Magazine and Kentucky Living); press releases; social media for both Gibson Connect and Gibson EMC (Facebook and Twitter); our Gibson EMC website, and bill messages. I understand from your 2/21 post the Medina, Dyer and Three Way will take a year or more to complete "Phase 1" consisting of designing, engineering and constructing 500 miles of fiber optic line. If phase 1 is for design, engineering and construction, is there a "Phase 2, Phase 3 and so on before a customer has internet service in their home? So, if it is going to take "a year or more" to complete 500 miles of line in those three zones, can we assume it will take 10 years or more to complete construction of all 27 zones. At my age I probably don't that many years left to wait on my zone to be completed. I'm sure others are as concerned as I am as to how long this entire project will take to complete. Comments????? Also, I stopped by the Trenton office recently to pick up some signs since I noticed NO SIGNS at all in the Newbern zone. Most everyone I talk to doesn't even know Gibson Connect exists. Terry, if I am not mistaken, I don,t think a modem is needed since the fiber will be converted to copper, or CAT6. I think that is what she means by a POTS line. If that is the case then it should be able to terminate to your router just fine.

Terry, thank you for your questions. You are correct that we do already have fiber connecting all of our substations and that it will speed the overall process since the “backbone” is already complete. We cannot give an exact time-frame for Medina receiving service, but engineering will begin soon. If all things go as planned, we hope to begin connecting our first customers as early as June. Construction will start at the substation and work out. We are not using a modem but an ONT which means that fiber will run all the way into the home and terminate on that device. Generally the fiber will follow the electric lines. If you have an underground service, we will bury the fiber up to your home. The ONT has a POTS line that can connect into your home phone wiring. The POTS line should act like your existing phone service, therefore security systems should work. In most cases fax lines will work, too, however we have not completed our testing on fax lines. Have a great weekend!

It is has been said the substations already have the fiber plant, if so will this make the service quicker to get going? Any rough estimates of the timeline for Medina? Spring/summer/fall ? I would love to see what you could offer in the way of television as well. I believe that affordable television packages would possibly be of more interest to some people in our area than the internet. A bundle package of TV and Internet would be great if the price could be kept reasonable and if half the channels included in the package were not radio channels- there are plenty of free ways to listen to music legally for me to be paying for that. Very displeased with current cost and reliability of TV service via satellite.

Thomas, we are constructing a GPON, fiber based network that allows us to provide symmetrical service offerings. To anyone in the hornbeak/troy area. Get as many people to sign up as possible! It's only 20 dollars to register (less than two fastfood meals) and you'll get a way better service for cheaper than the Kenn-Tenn wireless or awful awful sattelite internet so many people are stuck with! Not to mention it'll help in general with kids and homework being able to properly look up information and video topics and tutors and give you access to a world of tools and programs that you couldn't get before with the crippling data limits most of us are stuck with now. You'll save money in the long run being able to stream and watch shows and can even bump down that TV package if you choose. Do your part to make sure the hornbeak area and "zone" gets real internet!

John, once a zone reaches the required registration/participation level, our board will vote to move forward with engineering, ordering materials and construction. Unfortunately, we cannot provide a firm timeline. The answer is dependent on a number of variables like the number of miles of fiber that must be constructed within a zone and the number of zones currently under construction. We’re excited about providing this service, but please remember that delivering service over a 12-county area is a big job that may take several years to complete. Of course, as zones reach their participation requirements we will provide more specifics regarding timelines. You can encourage your neighbors to sign up to expedite the process. The higher the participation in your zone, the faster we can provide this essential service.

Mack, once a zone meets its goal, we estimate that: (1) it could take up to one month for board approval; (2) it could take up to two months for engineering; (3) it could take another three months for materials to arrive; and it could take up to six months to construct the fiber. So, the total process could take a year or longer from the time a zone reaches its participation requirement. The length of time before service can be provided also will depend on how near you are to a substation within a zone. We will start construction at the substation and once we have fiber to a member's home or business, we can go ahead and provide that member service. You can sign back in and elect to be a Zone Champion. We appreciate your support and willingness to help make access to this essential service happen!

I think this would be huge and great for this area (Fulton). Also, I also agree with what Mr. Joseph Lewis said in that it would be huge for the family and kids of not just Obion County, but all the sounding areas. I think I may want to sign up to help try and get the word out, but didn't check the box anyway to change that? Also, when a Zone meets it goal is their an estimate on how long it would take for the service to be up and running? Praying Fulton meets its goal... 8)

I want the 100 Mbps internet YESTERDAY. I am DESPERATE for it. But as much as I’d like to, I don’t have time to get out and knock on doors on Gibson EMC’s behalf to get people to sign up. I’m betting there are many people in my area (Three Way) who want better/faster internet service but they don’t know that Gibson EMC could potentially provide it if enough people sign up. Could you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE a THOUSAND TIMES PLEASE send out an announcement via snail mail? This way everyone will know about it. I didn’t know about it until I stumbled onto an article in the Jackson Sun. I didn’t hear about it from Gibson EMC, which is puzzling. I think you’re relying too much on word-of-mouth. I realize a mailing will cost money, but it’s the only way you’re going to reach close to 100% of the population.

Great question, Deanna. We set up the zones based on our substations and our communities. We also considered the miles of line within the zone and the number of members per mile of line. We used all of this information to arrive at the participation level we’d need for the fiber build-out to be financially feasible.

Deana, The Newbern zone I know for sure is all outside of city limits and doesn't cover as much area as the Hornbeak zone. People are more spread out and there's fewer of them in the area. Once a zone reaches the required registration/participation level, our board will vote to move forward with engineering, ordering materials and construction. Unfortunately, we cannot provide a firm timeline. The answer is dependent on a number of variables like the number of miles of fiber that must be constructed within a zone and the number of zones currently under construction. We’re excited about providing this service, but we ask that our members keep in mind that delivering service over a 12-county area is a big job that may take several years to complete. Of course, as zones reach their participation requirements we will provide more specifics regarding timelines.

Daniel, in response to your question... our goal is to provide high-speed internet access to all of our eligible members, but we also want to be sure we do it in a way that is financially sound. Using our participation model, join.gibsonconnect.com, is a financially sound process that enables our members to drive our buildout and get access. This approach follows the cooperative principles of (1) democratic member control, economic participation and concern for community. Ultimately we hope to reach all our eligible members, but I'm afraid it is too early in the process to speculate about next steps.

Bill, sorry for the delay in responding. Daniel is right. (Thanks, Daniel!) It's 100 Megabits per second up and 100 Megabits per second down.

Do you have yard signs I can post in my yard or on my street to help spread the word? Thanks. I think Friendship has been needing something like this to help it grow. TEC and Wisper hasn't gotten better so someone needs to fill the need of fast, reliable internet. Plus looks like price will be great compared to TEC $105 for 25/3 or Wisper $70 for 6/1.5. Three Cheers for Gibson Electric.

Marilyn, As far as I can tell it's all based on how quickly people sign up and each zone meets its goals. When the goals are met and the project is approved by the board, they will then begin engineering and buying materials, then they will begin running the fiber optic cables that they will be using, as they reach residents who have signed up the services will become available. So depending on the manpower that they have dedicated to this project and the priority of each zone (how quickly they meet their goal and the demand in that area probably). There is a lot of factors so it'd be almost impossible for them to give a solid timeline.

What kind of time line are we looking at. at getting this in place. One or two years or longer. My daughter is building next to us but haven't started building yet. Hoping to have house built by spring of 2018. We definitely want it. I have already registered for my husband and myself..

If a zone doesn't reach the goal will it still receive the services down the line? As in the areas with highest demand will receive it first, then the lower demand areas?

Thank you, Rick! We appreciate your efforts to spread the word. Please let everyone know they can call or come by their local Gibson EMC member service center and our member service reps will be happy to help them register. We'll communicate that too. If they happen to have internet access through a cell phone, they can register through join.gibsonconnect.com that way too. Great to have Zone Champions like you!

It is kind of hard to generate signups in our area because there is no good internet option in our area. Many people opt for nothing since you can pay a lot for wireless /satellite and it is still terrible! This campaign seems geared to people who already have service. But I’ll keep trying to get the word out cause we need a useful service in our area so badly.
