Hi, Jeff. Engineering work is already being done in the zones that have reached their goal (Medina, Three Way and Dyer) and in the area covered by a Tennessee Broadband Grant (Samburg, Tiptonville and Ridgely). We expect to begin construction in June. We'll start at the substations and connect members as we pass their homes and businesses. We expect to complete construction in these zones by the end of the year. Thank you for supporting Gibson Connect!

Any new information to share on the engineering and construction progress in the Medina Zone?

Hi, Brett! I understand you're ready for high-speed, fiber-based internet service; I can't wait for it too. Currently your zone is at 56% and needs 220 more to register. Our members are guiding the order of our build out based on which zones hit their participation goals first, so please encourage your family, friends and neighbors to register! We truly appreciate your interest and we look forward to providing you with this service!

Good morning, Chad. Our Kenton Zone is at 43% and needs 150 more to register. You can check your zone's progress at any time at this website by clicking on "Zones" above. Once on that page, just scroll down until you see "Kenton." Thanks so much for your interest and please continue to encourage your friends and neighbors to register!

William and Thomas, thank you for your suggestions and for your support of Gibson Connect! We are encouraging signups by communicating each month through our member publications (The Tennessee Magazine and Kentucky Living); press releases; social media for both Gibson Connect and Gibson EMC (Facebook and Twitter); our Gibson EMC website, and bill messages. Because of cost, we are more sparingly using paid ads (radio and newspaper) and bill inserts. We're also using fliers, counter stands, and banners in our member service centers. With the help of our Zone Champions we are using yard signs and door hangers. As zones near their participation goals, we are hosting registration events. We sincerely appreciate your help and your enthusiasm. Please continue to spread the word!

William I have seen one flyer in only one statement. I called and asked about letting people register and add the $20 to their bill and for some reason they said they could not do that. Another thought is why have calls not been made to encourage registration as I have not received one call from anyone even though I registered early on.

Why haven't we seen an ad in the mail with the electric bill. I figured by adding something in with the billing would help the process go faster. Something that would ask users if they wanted to pre register just ad the $20. I believe doing this one month would make more progress that word of mouth.

Scott, we will be following our existing electric lines. Fiber will be run overhead in areas where electric lines are already overhead and buried in areas where the electric line is underground. We also will be using technology that will minimize the amount of digging required in yards.

As far as construction goes, I'm assuming that the fiber backbone will be buried. Do you plain on using nods once you get to a neighborhood and then go to aerial drops? Reason I ask is it looks like AT&T is about to dig up everyone's yard in my neighborhood to lay fiber. Are you guys going to do the same thing a couple of months from now when you come through?

Glenn, I'm so sorry that we did not respond sooner. For the foreseeable future, we plan to continue using this website sign-up process so our members can guide the order of our fiber build out. We've just started Phase 1 with three zones that have hit their zones' participation goals and most of three more zones that are covered by the broadband grant. We want to encourage members to register at join.gibsonconnect.com because we hope to have other zones to hit their participation goals so we can begin engineering those areas as soon as we finish engineering Phase 1. Construction will work the same way; once we complete work on Phase 1, we hope to move right on to more zones in Phase 2. Of course, we plan to continue applying for grants to help with the build out too. Ultimately we plan to make high-speed, fiber-based service available to all of our members, but it will take a while. We really appreciate your patience and support! Please continue to encourage others to register!

So excited that I will finally be getting internet, other than just my phone. Is there any estimate on when construction will begin in Dyer zone? I realize it takes time and I am probably about as far on the end of the line as possible, but just like Christmas...anticipation and excitement are hard to contain when you have got nothing.

Jeff, we are still engineering the Medina Zone. We plan to begin construction in June. You are correct that we will be building from the substation out and will have multiple contractors working in multiple directions. We are excited about offering this service to all of our members!

Has any construction started in the Medina Zone or is it still in the engineering phase? If I’m understanding correctly counstruction will be from the substation out ? That being said which direction will construction go first north..south..east...west or will there be multiple crews working in all directions at once? Very excited about finally getting true Broadband Internet service.

Craig, if you move before service is connected, you can just call the office and one of our member service representatives can transfer your registration fee to your new address. Before you begin receiving service, you will be given the opportunity to update your choices. Thank you for your interest.

Once everything is up and running and someone moves would they have to pay another connection fee at the new location? Also, will there be an option to upgrade to the faster service if necessary?

Bill, you are right that we will provide high-speed internet access to our members in phases. We are using a member-driven process, so we will build first to those zones that hit their participation goals first (Medina, Dyer and Three Way). We also will be taking advantage of any grants that we can secure for members in our area. We submitted three Tennessee Broadband Grant applications and were awarded one. Phase 1 also will include the area covered by the Tennessee Broadband Grant (the Tiptonville, Ridgely and Samburg zones). So all total, we will be working in six zones to start. At the advice of our consultants (who have done the same kind of fiber buildout for their electric cooperative members) we will begin with about 550 miles. We hope to have most of the Phase 1 construction completed by the end of the year and start engineering on the next phase prior to completing Phase 1. Of course, we hope that we can complete the work faster, but we don’t want to over-promise and under-deliver. Our consultants also have told us that after this initial phase, we should be able to build out about 1,000 miles each year. We have a total of about 3,000 miles of line to build. We understand that you want and need this service as quickly as possible, but we ask you and our other Gibson Connect registrants to be patient. It is quite an undertaking to build fiber access to all of our eligible members, but that is what we plan to do. While we’d like to do it much more quickly, it will likely require several years. We are asking our members to tell their friends, family and neighbors about Gibson Connect, but we also are encouraging signups by communicating regularly through our monthly member publications (The Tennessee Magazine and Kentucky Living); press releases; social media for both Gibson Connect and Gibson EMC (Facebook and Twitter); our Gibson EMC website, and bill messages. More sparingly (because of cost), we are using paid ads (radio and newspaper) and bill inserts. Additionally, we’re using fliers, counter stands, and banners in our member service centers. Can we get an updated count for the Maury City zone please? I know for a fact there have been at least 4 more homes registered.
