Thank you for your comment, Mack. We're in a holding pattern now, while Kentucky prepares to launch the grant application. We will communicate a new timeline as soon as we know more. We are sorry for the temporary delay, but we are thankful for the grant opportunity. It can help us get high-speed internet access for our members in a much more affordable way. We appreciate your patience and support!

I got this email the other day, and I am assuming the once projected early winter 2021 completion is not happening? I was just so excited oh well that's life. I know it is not GCC and just want to thank you all for your hard work. Maybe one these days far Western Kentucky will stop screwed by its own state!!!!
Update
Dear Member,
I am writing because we have temporarily delayed the start of construction on the Gibson Connect fiber network; and we want to explain why we’ve reluctantly made this difficult decision.
As you may know, the Commonwealth of Kentucky has committed to offer grant opportunities for rural broadband expansion. This is extremely good news for you as a Gibson EMC member-owner and as a future Gibson Connect subscriber since it can help us make high-speed internet service available to you much more affordably. We’ve worked diligently to hold costs down and we have applied for all available State and Federal funding in an effort to be good stewards of your cooperative’s funds and protect your future costs.
Unfortunately, to be eligible to apply for the Kentucky grant funds, we cannot begin work in your area at this time. We have already performed all of the preliminary planning work, so as soon as the opportunity becomes available, we will begin construction. And once we have definitive information from the State, we will communicate a timeline.
Again, we sincerely apologize that these circumstances are causing a delay, but we are thankful for the opportunity to provide this essential service more economically with Kentucky’s funding support. Thank you for your continued patience and your support of Gibson Connect.
Sincerely,
Gibson EMC and Gibson Connect
Mack P
Sorry, that should be Late Fall2021 to Early winter 2022 not winter 2021. lol That has passed.

Hi, Michael. If your service has been connected, you can set-up your account information through our online vendor, SmartHub; you can do this either online through a browser or by downloading the free SmartHub app. There should be instructions in the welcome packet you were given at the time of installation, but if you do not have that information, please give us a call at 731.562.6000 and we will be glad to help you get started. I registered for service in Medina. Any update on when I can expect internet services ?
Sarah Williams
Hi, Cordelia. In those areas where fiber service has been completed, we are anticipating 2-4 weeks for new connections. If you just registered within the last day or two, your connection should be ready by the end of the month, or sooner. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We appreciate your support of Gibson Connect, and look forward to serving you, soon!

Hi, Darius. As of right now, the Bells zone is set to begin construction early next spring. Of course, there are several variables that could impact this estimate such as weather, contractor staffing, and material availability. We will continue to keep our members updated via email and on our website, www.gibsonconnect.com, should there be any significant changes to this timeline. Thank you for your support of Gibson Connect!

Hello, I have the fiber splice done on my pole outside, and the little Gibson Connect box is on the side of my house. How much longer? I need to plan a party for when I get to jettison this ugly & slow Viasat dish in my yard back to where it came from.
Sarah Williams
Hi, Stephen. From the information that has been submitted from the contractors, it appears that your service drop has been placed, but the fiber at the home has not yet been spliced. With your NID being on the side of the house already, it should not be much longer before the final splicing is completed and you are ready for connection. We appreciate your support of Gibson Connect, and look forward to serving you, soon!

When will the South Fulton zone begin construction?
Sarah Williams
Hi, Jimmy. At this time, our best estimate for construction to begin in the South Fulton zone is the summer of 2022. There are still several areas that we have committed to building this year, 2021, but we anticipate the South Fulton zone to be completed next year. We will continue to update members via email and on our social media pages as things progress and we have new information. Why is it that when a GEMC customer goes without power that gibson connect customers continue to
Go without service long after GEMC service is restored?
Sarah Williams
Hi, Jessica. That is a very good question, and I am happy to explain the delay. In most cases, when the poles and lines are down on the electric side, the fiber is down, too. The first priority is to replace poles and electric lines, followed by fiber lines. There is a natural delay, because the fiber lines cannot be replaced until the electric side has completed their restoration at the site. Our usual process, as we have done the last several days with storm damage, is to have a fiber crew come in right behind the electric crew to replace downed fiber lines. Gibson Connect usually isn't fully aware of the extent of fiber outages until the power has been restored. Crews have been working long hours to have all members restored as quickly as is safely possible, however, there is that window of delay that we cannot avoid. We are asking all members to please report any outages they have to ensure we are aware of them. Thank you for your support of Gibson Connect, and your patience as we work diligently to restore service to all members. We appreciate you!

I see that construction has began in the Newbern zone, obviously ahead of schedule from the original projections of July.
Just wanted to ask if there has been any change to the timetable of this area and when we might start seeing our first connections?
I know it's all projections, and thus subject to change. But barring any unforeseen circumstances, do we have a chance of being hooked up before July now?
Sarah Williams
Hi, Daniel. Yes, we have just started construction in the Newbern zone. There could be a chance that connections begin slightly earlier than anticipated, however, there is still a significant amount of work to be done prior to installations beginning. At this time, we are really only ahead of schedule with running the main line fiber, but there will still be service drops, splicing, etc. to be completed between now and connections. We will continue to keep members informed via emails and social media. Thank you for your support of Gibson Connect!

I'm trying to get some information. I tried sending an email first but haven't gotten a response yet. I live at 415 N Trenton Street in Rutherford Tennessee. And I honestly don't know what if any phone number you have on file for us, I can't find it here. But I know a lot of people a few streets away from us have gotten their outside box installed, and have since gotten their inside installation completed and now have Gibson connect. As of today they still have not installed our outside box so we are concerned they may have missed us or couldn't find the place or something. We have had a lot of issues with people not being able to find our house. If you could look into this for us, we'd greatly appreciated it. Thanks for your time.

Hey Patrick. I do see your registration, and that your service drop has been completed. The reason you don't have a NID placed on the home yet is because crews have not gotten the fiber spliced to the home. There are a few houses around you that are also awaiting splicing to be completed, followed by connection. If you would like to double check the phone numbers on your registration to ensure they are correct, please give us a call at 731.562.6000 and one of our team members will be happy to verify that information for you. Thank you for your support of Gibson Connect. We look forward to serving you, soon!

I am curious to why the woodland mills area is being connected prior to the newbern area when newbern reached their goal 3 months prior to woodland mills ? Any update on when newbern will be connected ? The estimate was by summer/fall of this year yet it states that it has not yet been initiated ?
Sarah Williams
Hi, Jennifer. Yours is a good question. We are applying for grants at every opportunity to hold down the cost of the buildout for you and our other member-owners. We received a grant for the Woodland Mills area that required us to complete that work by a certain date. We know that you need our service and we expect the Newbern zone to be under construction by the beginning of July. Please keep in mind that there are variables like weather and staffing issues that could delay us, but we provide this essential service to you as quickly as we can. We are sorry for the wait and we look forward to serving you!

I am curious what is the status on Walter Whipple Rd. It appears that my neighbors three houses up the road are connected. I thought we were supposed to be connected before the end of 2020 under the grant for the Woodland Mills Zone? There were people running around here like crazy in October, November, and December. I haven't seen a truck around here in several weeks. What is the deal? Why am I not hooked up?
Sarah Williams
Hey Ricky. I wanted to let you know that your home is ready to be connected, and our technical support team will be reaching out to you very soon. They will attempt to leave you a voicemail if possible, as well as text and email you. If you do not receive anything in the next couple of days, please give us a call at 731.562.6001 and someone will be able to take care of that for you!

Sarah Williams
Hi, Dennis. The Union City/Rives zone has not yet reached its goal, so construction has not yet begun in this area. Currently, the zone is at 78% of its goal, with 96 more registrants needed. We ultimately plan to offer this service to all of our eligible members, but we are allowing them to help drive the order of the buildout by signing up and meeting their goals. In addition to this, we are applying for grants to help keep costs down for our members. You can check your zones status at any time by vising the "Zones" tab on this site. Thank you for your support of Gibson Connect!

I am also curious about the time-line for the Troy zone. I completely understand the reason behind the participation goals and using that as a guide to decide the order of build-outs. It appears that most zones have reached the goals needed and those zone that have not yet reached the goal are very close to doing so. I signed up for this back in 2017 and I had hoped that by now we would be much closer to having this service than we are. Troy reached its goal in July of 2020, same time as Woodland Mills - but Woodland Mills zone is nearing completion and Troy zone (according to this website) hasn't even been scheduled for engineering yet. I understand this is a MAJOR project and very expensive I am sure. I am no rocket scientist, but in my feeble opinion - the faster folks are hooked up, the faster Gibson Connect can start getting a return on the investment. I also fully believe that once service is available in an area, households that might not have signed up for the service initially will get on board with the service from Gibson Connect and therefore boost the investment return. My point being - maybe additional contractors to get this completed faster could not only get the build-out done, but allow Gibson Connect to start recouping costs faster.
Rita Alexander
Hi, Ken. We plan to begin work in the Troy Zone early fall. As we pass homes and businesses we will connect them. We expect to have registered members connected by late spring of 2022.
We have applied for available grants to help hold down the cost of the fiber network buildout. We were awarded a grant for the Woodland Mills area that required it be completed before the end of 2020. We did bring in extra contractors to help with this work.
In fact, we regularly bring in additional contractors as personnel and materials are available. However, we only want to bring in contractors that will do quality work.
We agree that it is to everyone’s advantage that we complete the buildout and provide this important service as quickly as possible. Please know that we are doing our absolute best to push the project forward. Please continue to be patient; it will be well worth the wait.
Sarah Williams
Hi, Debra. At this time, we plan to begin construction in the Troy zone in the early fall, with connections completed by the spring of 2022. Please keep in mind, however, that the weather, the pandemic, and other factors could cause delays. We are working as quickly as possible to bring this service to all of our eligible members. You can check your zones status at any time by vising the "Zones" tab on this site. Please help us continue to spread the word and encourage your friends and family to sign up if they have not.

I've been having issues with the provided router and would like to use my pre-existing router. What is necessary for me to accomplish this? I've attempted to replace the provided unit and was unable to obtain a DHCP lease. Would it be possible to replace the GPON, too, with an appropriate SFP module in an available port?

Hey, Sarah! Thanks for having me! Taylor has been both helpful and informative. I appreciate both of you for getting me sorted so quickly.

Hi, Patrick. We would be happy to try and see if you can use your own router. I will forward your question over to one of our technical support team members, and have him reach out to you. He will be able to provide you with answers to those questions. Thank you for being a Gibson Connect subscriber!

I seen in the updates section that an email update was sent out the morning of Feb 15th. I looked and did not receive an email. That email may have been for specific zones? Could you clarify this for me please? Thanks

Hi, Ken. We did send out an update, and it was to several different zone, including ones that we have already completed. If you would give us a call at 731.855.4660 and ask to speak with me, I will be happy to verify your information and where that email was sent. If we need to update your contact information, we can do that as well. Thank you for your support of Gibson Connect!

Is there anything being done in Rives yet?
12:27PM February 09, 2021

Do you know the timetable for troy?
8:52AM February 09, 2021
Sarah Williams
Hi, Debra. At this time, we plan to begin construction in the Troy zone in the early fall, with connections completed by the spring of 2022. Please keep in mind, however, that the weather, the pandemic, and other factors could cause delays. We are working as quickly as possible to bring this service to all of our eligible members. Thank you for your support of Gibson Connect!
