We are in the early stages of construction, but you will see activity picking up in the coming weeks. As of now, our best estimate is to have the area completed by late winter 2022. Of course, connections will begin prior to that, but we do not have an exact timeline for the area. Josh, you are the only Josh Sanders that we have registered on Wiley Neely Rd., and it is indeed a part of the Hop-In/Rives construction. As I mentioned earlier, we are just now starting construction and we estimate to have the area completed by late winter 2022. That is the best estimate that we have as of now, but we will continue to update members as new information is available.

We are still in the area finishing up, so crews will be coming back through to place your service drop and splice the fiber, and get it ready for connection. Hi, Ashley. We are anticipating the Troy zone to be under construction by the beginning of September. There are variables that could impact this timeline such as weather, contractor staffing, and materials availability; but, as of now, we expect it to be underway by fall and connections to begin a few weeks following. We still have some construction to complete at the substation before connections are ready to begin. I got this email the other day, and I am assuming the once projected early winter 2021 completion is not happening? I was just so excited oh well that's life. I know it is not GCC and just want to thank you all for your hard work. Maybe one these days far Western Kentucky will stop screwed by its own state!!!! Update Dear Member, I am writing because we have temporarily delayed the start of construction on the Gibson Connect fiber network; and we want to explain why we’ve reluctantly made this difficult decision. As you may know, the Commonwealth of Kentucky has committed to offer grant opportunities for rural broadband expansion. This is extremely good news for you as a Gibson EMC member-owner and as a future Gibson Connect subscriber since it can help us make high-speed internet service available to you much more affordably. We’ve worked diligently to hold costs down and we have applied for all available State and Federal funding in an effort to be good stewards of your cooperative’s funds and protect your future costs. Unfortunately, to be eligible to apply for the Kentucky grant funds, we cannot begin work in your area at this time. We have already performed all of the preliminary planning work, so as soon as the opportunity becomes available, we will begin construction. And once we have definitive information from the State, we will communicate a timeline. Again, we sincerely apologize that these circumstances are causing a delay, but we are thankful for the opportunity to provide this essential service more economically with Kentucky’s funding support. Hi, Jessica. That is a very good question, and I am happy to explain the delay. In most cases, when the poles and lines are down on the electric side, the fiber is down, too. The first priority is to replace poles and electric lines, followed by fiber lines. There is a natural delay, because the fiber lines cannot be replaced until the electric side has completed their restoration at the site. Our usual process, as we have done the last several days with storm damage, is to have a fiber crew come in right behind the electric crew to replace downed fiber lines. Gibson Connect usually isn't fully aware of the extent of fiber outages until the power has been restored. Crews have been working long hours to have all members restored as quickly as is safely possible, however, there is that window of delay that we cannot avoid. We are asking all members to please report any outages they have to ensure we are aware of them. Thank you for your support of Gibson Connect, and your patience as we work diligently to restore service to all members. We appreciate you!

I see that construction has began in the Newbern zone, obviously ahead of schedule from the original projections of July. Just wanted to ask if there has been any change to the timetable of this area and when we might start seeing our first connections? I know it's all projections, and thus subject to change. But barring any unforeseen circumstances, do we have a chance of being hooked up before July now?

Hi, Daniel. Yes, we have just started construction in the Newbern zone. There could be a chance that connections begin slightly earlier than anticipated, however, there is still a significant amount of work to be done prior to installations beginning. At this time, we are really only ahead of schedule with running the main line fiber, but there will still be service drops, splicing, etc. to be completed between now and connections.
